I had what I thought was a wonderful idea over the weekend. Since we are planning on visiting The Mouse in September , I thought that maybe we should get Brynn more acquainted with the characters that we may run into. She knows The Mouses and their friends, all of the Pooh Crew, but not many of the ugly, parents must buy Princess crap (oh sorry, souvenirs) that I am sure is going to catch her eye.
So, I decide that while Kevin is watching the hockey game (Can you believe that hockey is still being played?) we would watch Cinderella. I've now realized that this movie is really not all that wonderful. I mean seriously, the cat is named Lucifer and Cindy is treated so badly that Brynn made remarks about it. Did Walt really need to make the stepmom and her daughters that mean?
Can't wait to watch Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

You might want to watch Snow White before you show it to Brynn. The chase at the end is very scary, it is through a spooky woods and ends with the witch being driven off a cliff. Dd refuses to watch it again. I can't stand the voices so I am more than happy to leave this one on the shelf.
Sleeping Beauty is a bit better but the Prince fights the wicked witch who turns into an enormous fire breathing dragon. Then he stabs it in the heart (complete with blood trail). Again a bit disturbing for a kid.
I think Walt meant this stuff for older kids but it is our pre-schoolers who want to see it. On the other hand the original stories were even more violent than the Disney versions. Go figure.
Maybe instead of the movies, you can get books from the library or sticker/coloring books so she recognizes the characters? We took Kerri to Epcot at 2, and even though she had never seen the movies or books, she did recognize the princesses from some of her clothes and toys (yeah, we are those parents).
aaagh yes, the macabre intoxication that is Disney! Piper loves Cinderella, but instead of wanting to be Cindy she sings the mean sisters songs....hmmm, Piper also commented on how mean the sisters and stepmom are, but she still loves the movie.
good luck
snow white's bad queen is SCARY stuff.
Never ever, ever forget Tinkerbell... the most important of all...
